Firestone comeback: better quality tires at better price

- CHICDRIVEN JEANETTE IPAPO-TUASON

How does one really decide on what tire to buy, all being round, black, and made of rubber. Some people think price is the only deciding factor. But being the only surface of your car that actually touches the road, the technology behind these round rubber objects are more important than you think.

A good quality tire can save you time, money, fuel, and even your life. Some tires afford you a really quiet and comfortable ride. Some will save you from aquaplaning and getting into an accident.

But after your car, tires can be the next big investment you need to make.

So, good news to all compact car owners—because a high-quality but affordable replacement tire is now available in the country.

One of the world’s biggest and most popular tire brands, Firestone returns to the Philippine market this year to service the massive compact car segment with a global legacy of consumer trust and dependability that spans for over a century.

“We wanted more people to experience high quality tires in economical prices,” said Marc Tagle, president of Philippine Allied Enterprises Corporation ( PAEC), the offi- cial distributor of Bridgestone in the Philippines. “We feel that the return of the Firestone brand is timely and much needed by the Philippine market,” he added.

Firestone is set to make its mark in the small car category with the FS100 touring tire, a value-for-money product which delivers exceptional road handling matched with ride comfort.

A true pioneer on the race track, the advancements of Firestone’s racing tires quickly find their way to consumer tires, and the FS100 is no exception.

“We’re excited to bring the iconic Firestone back,” said Steven Tagle, assistant vice president for Sales of PAEC. “As a brand built on quality and dependability, our customers can look forward to affordable tires that will keep them safe and comfortable on the road.”

The Firestone FS100 was developed to give motorists a well-balanced performance through a sophisticated tread design along with a compound that provides good grip in both wet and dry road conditions.

For safe wet braking, the tire features wide main grooves and highly-slanted diagonal slits that disperse water while minimizing tire deformation.

Durability on the track is durability on the streets, and the same technology for Firestone’s racing line is applied to the FS100’s sidewall construction, which has been reinforced to provide superior stability with better protection against sidewall cuts.

Every little detail of the FS100 has been engineered for precision driving, making every ride smooth and easy, and safe and comfortable for small cars.

The FS100 range fits 14- and 15-inch wheels, which are the most common original wheel sizes for compact vehicles.

“For a state-of-the-art, high-quality tire, the FS100 offers exceptional value that will be difficult for any competitor to match,” continues Tagle. “We’re bringing both quality and safety within the reach of our consumers, and at a price tag that we’re sure will make a budget-conscious market very happy.”
