Go and Joven at Kaida
“That PlayHouse” by Ayka Go and “Anggulo” by Jonathan Joven are on view at Kaida Contemporary.
Go revisits her childhood diary with her paintings and paper sculptures, reading, interpreting, reproducing and recreating actual pages reshaped as familiar objects, touching on memory, childhood fantasies, healing, escape and detachment while doing so.
In the Gray Room, Joven presents in “Anggulo” his new take on perspectives. Known for his worm’s eye view paintings, Joven explores different angles while playing with mixed standpoints combined with altered proportions. He also introduces several mixed-media pieces utilizing tracing paper, layering architectural plans with figures and line drawings from Leon Battista Alberti’s perspective theories to challenge the viewer’s point of view while addressing issues about society and the environment.
Rishab at Gallery Nine
Rishab Tibon’s series of whimsical works are on exhibit in the show “Playtime,” running until July 15 at Gallery Nine in SM Megamall.
Tibon is known for his colorful compositions and fantastical tableaus of realistic and imagined creatures painted in clean lines while having multitexture detail. “Playtime” evokes memories of childhood with variations of the classic teddy bear in prototypical representation.
