Benjamin Alves isn’t ‘all fluff, no substance’ /

- DOLLY ANNE CARVAJAL

Not too many people know that Benjamin Alves is into writing prose and poetry. Most hunks like Benj only work on keeping their bodies well-toned without “exercising” their brain anymore. All fluff, no substance.

The Kapuso heartthrob’s writing prowess adds to his “pogi points.” He topbills GMA 7’s “Kapag Nahati ang Puso” (weekdays on the morning block starting July 16). It follows the story of Rio (Sunshine Cruz) and Claire (Bea Binene) who unwittingly become fierce rivals without knowing their real relationship as mother and daughter.

They cross paths and end up falling in love with the same guy, Joaquin (portrayed by Benj). Quite a bizarre love triangle. Let the complications begin.

Here’s my chat with Benjamin:

If you were torn between two women, what will the deciding factors be to choose one over the other?

How they love. Do they love me for who I really am, or do they love me as an idea of what I can be? I’d like to be loved as the person I am now, regardless of imperfections. The other seems like there are conditions to be met.

Would you rather be with the one you love more or the one who loves you more?

The one I love more; I’d never have to question if what I’m giving is enough.

What does your character in “KNAP” make you realize about love?

That love can be defined and be expressed differently by who you receive it from and give it to. And I learned that you can’t love two people and expect to be whole. ———— Globe Telecom, through Globe Live (GL), is set to help revitalize the local music industry by partnering with Elements Music Camp (EMC), a platform that develops talented local singersongwriters for a global audience.

GL will bring in five world-renowned record producers who, along with five local mentors, will choose the next global Filipino recording artist. The artists and producers will get leverage through the telecom company’s partner platforms, such as Spotify, YouTube and Facebook, so more people can experience the content and music created through the camp.

Ten aspiring music artists will snag a chance to get into EMC. Open to musicians nationwide (aged 21 to 35). Those interested must submit a demo and fill out the form at glbe.co/jointhecamp. Application is ongoing until July 31.

To kick off the celebrations, there will be a reunion concert, featuring past members and campers on July 21 at the University of the Philippines Theater. Who says OPM isn’t alive and well?

I’d like to be loved as the person I am now, regardless of imperfections Benjamin Alves Actor
