Swatch partners with world-renowned museums for ‘canvases for the wrist’
Historic art masterpieces are reinterpreted in new watch collections
Swatch loves bringing art to the people. Remaining true to this commitment, the Swiss watchmaker is partnering with art museums of international renown to reinterpret a distinctive selection of their famous artworks.
This creative collaboration will kick off this July at the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, home to more than 8,000 artistic and historical objects from the year 1200 to the present.
For the first time in the history of Swatch, masterpieces from historical art serve as a base for new canvases on the wrist, skillfully completed with contemporary touches.
Art can spring from any piece of timeless art, and Lady Buzz is proof. A fan case of lacquered wood with decorated fabric from the Rijksmuseum collection inspired this handpainted watch design.
From the museum walls and onto your wrist, Dutch Skies is inspired by the 1936 original work of by Jacob Neefs, “Spectacle with Ship with Fireworks,” and the “Columns of Hercules.” Leroicestmoi is based on original work by Hyacinthe Rigaud, “Portrait of Louis XIV.”
These new watches are part of the “Worldhood” Fall- Winter 2018 collection. Discover the eclectic styles from this latest Swatch theme.
Other styles include the classic and elegant Matita that will complement any outfit. Gesso is a reminder of the simpler way of life. Fuzzy Logic, with a dusting of blue on pure white silicone, is a watch that brings sparkle to life.
The shiniest pieces in the Worldhood collection give wrists a special shimmer. There are the Gent Originals Redbaya, Azulbaya, Sandbaya and Pastelbaya. Also in the collection are the metallic icons Pinkbayang, Powderbayang, Ashbayang and Naitbayang.
