Shell Advance pioneers motorcycle engine oil made from natural gas
THERE IS a new motorycle engine oil in the market that can produce the feel of racing and at the same time promise huge savings in consumption.
Shell Philippines recently unveiled the new revolutionary Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology motorcycling lubricant.
PurePlus Technology is a revolutionary gas-to-liquid (GTL) process, developed through over 40 years of research, that converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil with virtually none of the impurities found in crude oil.
It is further combined with Active Cleansing Technology to create a fully synthetic lubricant that cleans as it protects the engine, helping prevent the buildup of dirt and aiming for a smoother, more responsive experience for bikers worldwide.
The base oil is produced at the Pearl GTL plant in Qatar, a partnership between Shell and Qatar Petroleum, and the world’s largest source of GTL products today. Benefits of the new Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology include: increased durability, since it lasts twice as long as a typical oil drain interval; more power, since it maintains your bike’s peak power; and gives increased fuel economy, giving you an average of 5 kilometers more per liter of fuel.
“This is a revolutionary product in the motorcycle engine oil market,” says Dennis Javier, Shell Lubricants business manager for Thailand and the Philippines.
“With a natural gas-based technology, a clean and pure starting point, we have basically reimagined and reinvented our synthetic lubricants, and enhanced our products’ performance,” he explains.
Base oil makes up approximately 75 to 90 percent of motor oil so Shell PurePlus Technology is a significant step up in the composition of Shell Advance motorcycle oils—making it the company’s most advanced lubricant ever.
The superior performance of Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology is marked by reduced friction for better fuel economy and enhanced viscosity that maintains the oil’s performance not only in extreme temperatures but also in low temperatures, flowing rapidly for easier engine start-up and faster engine warm-up.
Shell Advance with PurePlus Technology also provides improved protection against the buildup of engine deposits and unsurpassed sludge protection, which provide better defence against wear and corrosion— helping to extend engine life and reduce maintenance costs. Increased savings for the consumer are also achieved because of less frequent top-ups, owing to the product’s lower volatility.
“As a result, your bike’s engine is able to consistently perform at its peak and stays in grade until the next oil change so that you can enjoy every ride,” Javier says. “With an ever increasing number of motorcycles on Philippine roads, we believe Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology will improve the riding experiences of the bikers, given the varied climatic and geographical conditions in the county.”
Motorsport excellence
Shell’s commitment to developing only the best, most advanced and innovative motor oils is evidenced by its longstanding partnerships with some of the most respected motoring brands in the world such as Ducati.
The unveiling of the new Shell Advance Ultra with PurePlus Technology brings this partnership to greater heights as it coincides with the landmark 17th year of collaboration with the Italian powerhouse motorcycle brand in the MotoGP season this year.
“Shell’s commitment to innovation through motorsport at the highest level is an integral part of our extensive research and development program that is key to making better motor oil for our customers,” says Andrew Greenall, project leader of Shell Motorsport Lubricant Development.
“Working closely with racing technical partners like Ducati, Shell tests and develops new formulations under the most challenging conditions, so bikers know that Shell’s race-bred oils are proven winners on the track,” he adds.
The technical partnership between Shell and Ducati has become one of the most respected in motorsport, achieving more than 150 race wins and a total of seven Riders’ World Titles in MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship.
