HOW much did Gambia’s leader steal from his nation?

-

BANJUL—

Exiled Gambian ruler Yahya Jammeh stole millions of dollars in his final weeks in power, plundering the state coffers and shipping out luxury vehicles by cargo plane, a special adviser for the new president said on Sunday. Newly elected President Adama Barrow has yet to come home after taking his oath in Senegal because of safety concerns. At a press conference in Senegal, Barrow’s special adviser Mai Ahmad Fatty confirmed that Jammeh made off with more than $11.4 million during a twoweek period alone. Jammeh ruled for 22 years. “The coffers are virtually empty,” said Fatty.
