MSEUF sponsors 8th Regional Student Congress
Television newscaster and journalist Pia Arcangel-Halili and TV host, anchor and beauty pageant titleholder Socorro Alicia “Cory” Rastrollo Quirino were the resource speakers during the 8th Regional Student Congress held at the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) last Oct. 18. Dubbed as “A Day with the Icons,“Halili, co-anchor of GMA News TV’s afternoon newscast, Balitanghali, expounded on the topic "Communicating Across Generation." Addressing the student participants as “baby boomers,” “gen xers” and “millenials,” Halili underscored the importance of communication and encouraged students to work with and communicate effectively with diverse generation. She shared Ken Owens, Tellabs statements “Bridging the generation gap comes down two simple ideas: understanding and respecting differences, and learning how to communicate effectively.” On the other hand, Quirino, a council member of the Philippine Red Cross tackled "Wellness and Physical Literacy." She emphasized to the future teachers that to teach is to respect the four domains of wellbeing in the school environment namely: cognitive, emotional, social and physical. Quirino, the granddaughter of the late President Elpidio Quirino, said that the whole child approach is becoming more and more popular in schools, as teachers become responsible for improving the students’ health and wellness and believe in the benefits of physical activities to develop their well-being. An open forum followed after each talk before the more than 800 education students from Sacred Heart College, St. Anne College of the Pacific, Maryhill College, Enverga University Catanauan, Eastern Quezon College, Calauag Central College, Philippine Normal University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Southern Luzon State University, STI-Lucena, and Manuel S. Enverga University FoundationMain Campus. Dr. Joselina T. Baylongo, dean of the College of Education-MSEUF spearheaded the whole day forum assisted by the faculty members and students of the college. The event was also graced by Dr. Benilda N. Villenas, vice president for academics, Prof. Evelyn S. Abeja, acting vice president for administration and Prof. Celso D. Jaballa, acting vice president for external relations. The MSEUF Concert Singers and the College of Education Dance Group entertained the participants during the program hosted by Dexter S. Villamin.
