Sen. Cynthia Villar on Mondaywarned the public against a bogus raffle promo using the name of her family’s foundation, the Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation (Villar Sipag), which promises house and lots to winners. Villar said the promo, circulating via text messages and on social media, even included permit numbers from the Department of Trade and Industry and the name of a person claiming to be her lawyer or secretary. “However, we would like to inform the public that Villar Sipag has no ongoing raffle promos or contests,” the senator said. The misleading post on Facebook under a fake page named “Villar Foundation Libreng Pabahay 2018” invites people to like and share it to qualify for the alleged raffle promo that supposedly will run until Dec. 31. The Department of Labor and Employment is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government of China on Wednesday for the hiring of Filipino household service workers (HSWs) and English teachers. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said he would sign the MOUwith China’s minister of labor. “In my casual meeting with the ambassador of China, we were talking initially of 100,000 English teachers and about 100,000 English-speaking household service workers,” he said. The HSWswill be deployed to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen.
