The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) once more claimed its place among the region’s top companies when it bagged four awards at the recent 2018 AsiaPacific Stevie Awards, a premier business award that focuses on recognizing innovation in all its forms.

The latest awards came on the heels of Meralco’s nine wins from last year’s Stevies International Business Awards. The Philippines’ largest power distribution utility not only competed against other companies regionally, but also with some of the world’s most innovative groups.

Meralco won gold for its entry, "Lighting up Facebook with Christmas Vibes,” wherein the firm leveraged its huge social media following to spread the brightness and warmth of the season. Facebook activations included a live stream of the Meralco Liwanag (Bright) Park’s yearly opening ceremony, the firm’s live logo that turns into a lighted lantern, and an uploaded video of visitors’ bonding moments at the park.

The distribution utility also won gold for “Office 365 the new normal: Maximizing productivity for Meralco's Digital Pivot.” A cloud-based suite of productivity tools that allows users to collaborate anytime, anywhere, Office 365 (O365) was adopted by Meralco as part of its digital transformation. Its humanized deployment of the technical tool subsequently became the O365 migration benchmark in the Philippines.

Meralco was also given a silver Stevie for “MTech 2017: A journey to tomorrow,” a digital initiative showcasing how Meralco’s Technology and Innovation Summit was revolutionizing the company.

The company also won bronze for its entry entitled “6th Meralco Luminaries: A Future of Possibilities. As Meralco’s flagship customer engagement program for its partners for progress in the private and public sectors, the Luminaries has grown bigger every year – with distinguished winners, awe-inspiring stories of collaboration, and a glittering awards night gala.

Meralco President Oscar S. Reyes said, “As a public utility that constantly strives to fulfill its role of giving the best service and value to its stakeholders, Meralco has a high regard for international awards like the Stevies. These serve as a testament to our global competitiveness as well as our commitment to create a bright future for the company, our customers and other stakeholders.”

Meralco’s Head of Marketing, Customer Solutions and Product Development Tony Valdez, who sat as the competition’s chairman of the jury on websites, apps and HR, said in an earlier interview, "As a jaded practitioner, you'd think you've seen everything. But the discipline continues to evolve, and there are those who continue to push excellence further. And that's what the Stevies recognizes.”

The 2018 Asia Pacific Stevie Awards honored other elite Asian companies like PCCW, Oracle, Petronas, Dell Technologies, Cisco, Korea Electric Power, CLP Power HK Ltd., and Telkom Indonesia.
