TEENS ON THE RUN IN ‘THE DARKEST MINDS’

-

The YA road trip movie “The Darkest Minds” follows surviving children who have been locked up in rehabilitation camps and regarded as enemies of the state.

Starring in this adaptation, inspired by Alexandra Bracken’s book, are up-and-coming young actors Amandla Stenberg (“Hunger Games”), Harris Dickinson (“Beach Rats”) and Miya Cech (“American Horror Story”), along with TV stars Mandy Moore (“This is Us”) and Gwendoline Christie (“Game of Thrones”).

Living in a dystopian America, Ruby (Stenberg) woke up changed on her tenth birthday. It was alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. It got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” Ruby survived a mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and a few others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities.

Ruby barely escapes Thur- mond with her life and joins kids who escaped their own camp. Liam (Dickinson), their leader, falls for Ruby, but she can’t let him get close.

The film will be in Philippine cinemas on Aug. 1.
