Sweet and special: ‘Best Desserts 4’ now available at NBS, Powerbooks
Fourth iteration of the popular series features 120 desserts from 90 different makers
Now, the country’s best desserts are within your reach. “Inquirer Lifestyle Best Desserts 4: The MostRead Bestselling List” by Lifestyle food writer Vangie Baga-Reyes is now available at National Book Store and Powerbooks.
This book is the latest in Baga-Reyes’ annual selection of the most delightful desserts in the Philippines. This fourth iteration in the series features 120 desserts from 90 different makers, including home-based bakers, famous chefs, five-star hotels, restaurants and budding pastry chefs.
Each entry includes information on how to order the desserts so the food will be just a phone call, message, or car ride away.
“This is by far the most extensive and longest list of our best desserts,” Baga-Reyes said. “Our list grows every year because of our innovative bakers.”
Desserts can only appear on the list once; each book represents the cream of the crop.
It was Inquirer Lifestyle Editor Thelma Sioson San Juan who created the “Best Desserts” list four years ago. “I noticed the very obvious resurgence of irresistible homemade desserts,” she said. “Many, mostly women, were beginning to concoct cakes, brownies and the like in their homes. People were talking about the cakes of Baby Yulo, for instance. And before you knew it, each dessert maker was already doing it full-time and having a thriving business.”
“Best Desserts 4” includes desserts, such as Miko Aspiras’ 17-Layer Chocolate Cake, Gay Vazquez’s Mud Pie, Mary Anne Ramos’ Belgian Melt-In-YourMouth Chocolate Cake, Dedet de la Fuente of Pepita Kitchen’s Biko Tutong.
The book presents the desserts in the following chapters: Classics with an Edge, Can’t Go Wrong with Chocolate, Fruits in my Desserts, Fresh from Home, Butter in the Spotlight, Meringue Inspired, Cookies at Center Stage, Healthy Picks, Bite-Size Goodness, and Cold and Creamy. Whether you’re a cookie, ice cream, cake, chocolate or kakanin person, there’s something in “Best Desserts 4.”
“Best Desserts 4” was launched last May 28 at SM Aura Premier’s SMX Convention Center. The book comes to retail for the first time.
The book was edited by Alya Honasan, with layout by Riki Velarde, photographs by Leo Sabangan II, and foreword by San Juan, under Inquirer Books head Ruel S. De Vera. “Inquirer Lifestyle Best Desserts 4” is available for P395 at National Book Store and Powerbooks branches.
