550 refugees spark Korean xenophobia

JEJU— More than 500 asylum-seekers from Yemen have sparked an unpreceden­ted wave of xenophobia in ethnically homogenous South Korea, echoing the anti-immigrant sentiment that has swept Europe and helped propel Donald Trump to the White House. Hundreds protested in Seoul last month urging authoritie­s to “kick out fake refugees” while nearly 700,000 signed a petition calling for tightening refugee laws.—
