DPWH out to suspend 43 inefficient contractors

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started suspension proceedings against 43 contractors involved in over 400 government projects nationwide for failing to meet completion targets. A contractor may be sanctioned by the DPWH if it has already recorded a 15-percent slippage rate. This means that even though a project is expected to be 25-percent complete this month, the contractor has finished only 10 percent. “If they can’t [catch up], we’ll cancel the contract and bid [out] the project again,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.—
