Merging athletic and intergalactic aesthetics;
French houses Courrèges, Mugler, and Paco Rabanne have all undergone revivals in recent years and in the process they’ve been given an athletic, modern spin. This season, a space-age aesthetic dominates their super-cool French take on sports chic: neoprene zip-up suits at Courrèges, shiny chain mail, clear PVC cocoon coats and sporty piping on body-hugging styles at Mugler, and scuba-style white balaclavas and futuristic white hooded anoraks at Paco Rabanne. There’s nothing sepia-tinted hippy or awkward-geek-in-cords-and-florals about it. This is the anti-70s movement. The look is normcore meets sportswear. It’s a Daybreaker disco... on Jupiter. It’s sublime.
