GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
Queen Elizabeth II is now the longest reigning monarch with 65 years on the throne
This year marks Queen Elizabeth II’s Sapphire Jubilee since she ascended the throne in 1952 after the premature death of her father, King George VI. All of Britain celebrated in high spirits: ceremonial gun salutes were heard all over the country and new stamp and commemorative coins were released. Meanwhile, the 90-year-old monarch chose to observe Accession Day silently in her country estate in Sandringham in eastern England. British Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated the Queen in a statement, thanking her for her lifetime devotion to serve the country and the Commonwealth and regarded the Queen as inspiration to all. A grander celebration for Her Majesty’s platinum jubilee in 2022 is reportedly in the works.
