Life in Technicolour
Living art space Roche Bobois’ latest furniture collection draws on the aesthetic of Maison Christian Lacroix
In keeping with its commitment to bring the most vibrant and enduring concepts in the field of home décor, design studio Roche Bobois unveils its latest space accents and furniture collection inspired by the works of celebrated fashion vivant Christian Lacroix.
Twenty different luxe furniture pieces incorporate the signature look and feel of Maison Christian Lacroix into every room of a home, a range that spans from foldable room dividers, bedside tables, and well into rugs and even lamps.
ECLECTIC INSPIRATIONS
Prints adorning cabinets and foldable screens evoke a mood of modern optimism yet are reminiscent of past eras. One set is a throwback to the romance of the 19th century with black and white images of the town of Aries. The nostalgia is further complemented by full-colour prints of a temperate garden in summer.
A vertical bookshelf of stacked boxes bears stripes in dark pinks and blues, evoking the smoky and subdued passion of the post-war Beat Movement. These striped prints are also applied to the upholstery of dining chairs where the zebra stripes call to mind the safari-inspired haute couture of the era. There is also homage to Provence with the addition of dark blue velvet armchairs sporting prints akin to the rustic aesthetic of the region and its quiet sophistication.
The set’s double-doored cabinet is a somewhat quirky nod towards Cubism: at first glance, it looks more like a gallery installation than a mere utilitarian storage, given how sections are hollowed out and resting on each other like toy building blocks partially dangling, giving off the impression of a stairway.
CONTEMPORARY CLASSICS
As part of Roche Bobois’ Nouveaux Classiques section, the Christian Lacroix set has been designed by protégé and Maison creative director Sacha Walckhoff. Embodying the audacity and energy of French Art de Vivre, all items are made from materials carefully selected with the end-user’s comfort, aesthetic, and luxury in mind.
Prints are embossed onto silk on lacquered wood; furniture likewise combines precious woods such as acacia with fine gleaming brass. Louro preto veneers are the dominant element of the collection and are given a luxurious nuance by the sheen of brass detailing on the contours of many of the pieces.
With this Roche Bobois and Maison Christian Lacroix partnership, comfort and aesthetic enliven a house, inviting style and statement to one’s living space. True to the spirit of the French Art de Vivre movement, art here doesn’t just imitate life but celebrates it as well in this latest collection.
