Dr Steve Mark Gan is, first and foremost, a dentist. However, his devotion to the field doesn’t stop him from living a full life as a family man, an executive at one of the country’s leading dental clinics, and, most recently, a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Genoa in Italy, one of the oldest pioneering institutions of modern medicine.

Despite these commitments, Gan remains in demand as a doctor as he personally handles 80 per cent of surgeries and devotes four days a week to clinical services. The way he has merged life and work embodies what the Gan Advanced Osseointegration Centre (GAOC) stands for. Offering oral surgery, cosmetic, and general dentistry at its branches in Metr o Manila and its most recent addition in the Queen City of the South Cebu, the GAOC clinic system confidently stands as one of the few dental institutions in the country that car efully selects its technologies and specifically crafts its practices for the optimal comfort and tr eatment of its clients.

Endorsed by various local celebrities who have been more than satisfied with the service, each GAOC branch is known for well-appointed facilities—from fullylighted procedure rooms that ensure patient privacy by handling one client at a time to its fairly luxurious bathrooms. Gan shares that these are not mere sales gimmicks but are aligned services set to ensur e comfort and confidence rooted in personalised and premium care. Each branch takes cleanliness

and hygiene steps further with luxe interiors, comfortable mood lighting, and entertainment options like music or movies available for patients undergoing various procedures.

Clear communication is one of GAOC’s best practices. Cheerful staff and doctors enthusiastically clarify any and all of a patient’s questions, simplifying jargon, and presenting the best options specific to each individual case. This reflects the constant training undergone by every member of the GAOC system, from lab technicians to resident dentists and attending nurses. Only those with the best credentials practice at GAOC, and amidst developments in the field, these chosen few continue to undergo periodic training, sent to international conferences and the like.

Gan himself continues his education not only as a lecturer but as a student, adapting to innovations within the medical community. This informs how GAOC selects from the many bidders offering technology: looking past fads and trends, a prime is put on procedures that age gracefully with the patient. He says, “We scrutinise each and every product for our doctors to use.” Gan’s job is also to ensure that the clinics operate on the “Ferraris and Lamborginis of dental equipment.” Osseointegration, after all, is the delicate practice of dental implants merging with the body’s rhythms. The staff too will be the first to ask for concerns and follow-up with patients in the days after procedures.

With GAOC now well established, Gan now sets his sights on the bigger picture, aiming to give back to society. Two clinics catering to middleincome families are slated to open in Manila’s outskirts. Earlier this year, the GAOC foundation was set with two aims, to help the nonprofit dental group Operation Smile and to support the college scholarships for the children of GAOC staff and employees.

All these developments amidst continuing premium dental treatment and care by the Gan Advanced Osseointegration Center ensure a constantly bright smile on one’s face long after the dental treatments have set one’s bite back into daily life.
