SOUL OF A NATION: ART IN THE AGE OF BLACK POWER
TATE MODERN, LONDON 12 JULY TO 22 OCTOBER
Gathering 150 artworks—some of which are on display in the UK for the first time— the exhibition explores the contribution of African-American artists to the cultural and societal shifts in the States during the ’ 60s and ’ 70s. Paintings, photography, sculptures, activist posters, and even clothing designs offer a comprehensive look into “Black Art” as it came to be known during the Civil Rights Movement, telling the story of a people fighting to define their own cultural identity. tate.org.uk
