LABEL LOVER
HECHO
US designer Jack Miner, a native of a chilly town in New England, had been an analyst at a New York venture capital firm before he moved to sunny Mexico City with his husband. He immediately fell in love with the city and its people, and was inspired to create his menswear resort brand, Hecho, in 2015. As well as creating stylish casualwear, he hoped his label would help overcome misrepresentations of Mexico City as being a dingy or dangerous place. His love of the city can be seen in his collections’ muted colours, breezy Cuban shirts, and easy separates that never fail to make a splash. For spring/summer 2018, Miner has adopted some of the palette and imagery of Mexican surrealist Pedro Friedeberg. Besides the bathing suits printed with Friedeberg’s works, he makes metaphorical comparisons to Mexico City’s unique blend of mid-century and colonial architecture. The collection’s lime terrycloth robes, airy linen shirts, and beach-ready leather totes are perfect for any warm weather destination.
