This year’s joint Philanthropy Awardees may best be described as a power couple, primarily due to their eminence in the global media industry.

David Bradley is best known as owner and chairman of Atlantic Media which owns prominent publications like The Atlantic and digital publishing powerhouse Quartz. His wife, the former Katherine Brittain, joined his corporate endeavours through her work with his research companies The Advisory Board and The Corporate Executive Board.

Beyond these achievements, the Bradleys have made a difference in the lives of the Philippines’ youngest victims of abuse since 1996 when they first endowed the Child Protection Unit at the Philippine General Hospital which, today, takes in about 100 abused children per day, taking care of their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This would eventually lead to the establishment of the Child Protection Network (CPN) in 2002. As chairman, David continues to fly in regularly for meetings and to see the impact of CPN on the lives of rescued children.

A pro-active stance towards the plight of the less fortunate is second nature for both Bradleys. A much-younger David Bradley, then a Fulbright Scholar to Manila, found his eyes opened by a nation known for its resilience—something that prompted him to say, “There’s so much joy in the slums. They were extremely hard-up but I would say these children are much happier than the average American kids I’ve seen.”

Katherine also does her part through the CityBridge Foundation which provides solutions for issues in health and education. She is the present head of Teach for America and is also a trustee on the boards of Princeton University, the National Geographic Society, and the Washington Ballet.

Through CPN, David and Katherine Bradley work tirelessly to fight the Goliaths of abuse and human trafficking, giving children from abusive backgrounds hope for a better, brighter tomorrow.

Mr and Mrs Bradley respectively received a pair of 18k gold Les Classiques cufflinks with golden South Sea pearls and a Mon Secret bracelet with baroque pearls from Jewelmer with their award.
