CHRISTOPHER ESBER
LABEL LOVER
Women will never stop buying classic, feminine pieces that can be worn across seasons, no matter what trends come and go. This is something Australian designer Christopher Esber cottoned onto early. Esber was a keen drawer as a child and learned about the technical aspects of clothing from his seamstress aunt. While most designers hone their skills at fashion houses before starting their own label, Esber jumped straight into launching his own brand after graduating from the Fashion Design Studio in East Sydney. That leap of faith paid off. He soon won the International Woolmark Prize in 2014, and debuted his fall/winter 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week. Esber’s designs are inspired by the tailoring of menswear, with fitted shoulders and structured skirts, and he’s known for clean canvases devoid of unnecessary embellishments. That’s not to say his looks are plain. It’s the details that count for Esber, whose dresses this season have a soft tie-dyed pattern and waist cut-outs, and the acrylic buttons with crushed ceramic that can be found on even his simplest pieces have become a signature of his label. Christopher Esber is available at Lane Crawford and online at Farfetch.com.
