Vendors agree to pay 10% of their arrears every month

-

MORE than 1,000 vendors from the three major public markets in Bacolod already agreed that they will pay 10 percent of their arrears every month, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting, Jr., said yesterday October 21.

Ting said the vendors have an arrear and some of them already settled their accounts at the City Treasurer’s Office.

The arrears of the vendors due to non-payment of rentals at the three major public markers already reached more or less P30 million.

Ting said the vendors also talked with Councilor Celia Matea Flor, chairperson of the City Council committee on markets, and they promised to pay 10 percent of their arrears every month.

He said last month, the tenants were given a notice to settle their accounts with the City Treasurer’s Office or else their stalls will be closed.

Lawyer Paficifico Maghari III earlier said about 1,261 vendors from the three major public markets in Bacolod City were already given certificates of recognition.

He said the vendors at the Central Public Market, Libertad Public Market and Burgos Public Market were also given a certificate of recognition to give them legitimacy in the meantime while they are complying with the requirements set by the city government.

“They are the actual occupants or awardees at the city’s major public markets and it’s the first step to legitimize their operation since they were required to submit their requirements so they will be given a contract of lease,” he said.

Flor earlier said the market vendors will be given until January 2023 to settle their arrears with the CTO.*
