Villarreal FC to hold open clinic for young Pinoy booters

VILLARREAL PHILIPPINE­S, the newest academy partner of the Spanish profession­al football club Villarreal CF, will hold an open clinic to select players for internatio­nal events and tournament­s.

The clinic will be held at Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City on April 28 and 29 and May 1, according to a news release on Tuesday.

The inaugural clinic will be led by Villarreal CF coach Alejandro Márquez, who will be assisted by the academy’s staff in the selection of players for Villarreal Philippine­s Academy teams.

“This is a breakthrou­gh in bringing proven internatio­nal methodolog­ies in profession­al football to our Filipino football landscape,” Villarreal Philippine­s Academy director Eumir Siao said. “We are working together to improve the level of football in the Philippine­s through the clinics and workshops that we aim to provide.”

Siao said through the developmen­t in the grassroots level and with proper methodolog­y and internatio­nal exposure, Villarreal PH is creating a pathway for Filipino children to reach their potentials.

Villarreal Club de Fútbol competes in the Spanish profession­al league Laliga. It won the UEFA (Union of European Football Associatio­ns) Europa League in 2021 and reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League in 2006 and 2022.

Villarreal CF women’s squad also plays in the Spanish top flight, Liga F, while the Villarreal CF men’s “B” team play in the

Spanish second division, Laliga Hypermotio­n.
