DAGOON, DAVILA RULE CAINTA JUNIOR TENNIS

CADEE JAN Dagoon bagged her second girls’ U-14 title while Samuel Davila ruled the boys’ U-18 division in the Palawan Pawnshoppa­lawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) National Tennis Championsh­ip at Village East Tennis Club in Cainta, Rizal on Sunday.

Dagoon defeated doubles partner Ayl Gonzaga, 6-2, 7-6(3) in the U-14 final. However, she lost the U-16 crown to Joy Ansay, 3-6, 0-6.

Dagoon, a silver medalist in the elementary singles at the 2023 Marikina Palarong Pambansa, was also U-14 champion and U-16 runnerup in the Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. National Juniors Tennis Championsh­ips in Olongapo last week.

Meanwhile, Samuel Davila won the U-18 title after top seed Ariel Cabaral retired.

Dagoon and Davila were both named Most Valuable Players in the Group 2 tournament presented by Dunlop following their victories in doubles play.

Dagoon and Gonzaga bagged the U-14 title over Lilith Rufino and

Carolina Fandino, 8-7(3); while Davila and Lucas Go outclassed Cabaral and Raphael Paglalunan, 8-2, for the U-18 title.

In other singles results, Quezon City’s Chloe Mercado defeated Reece Ballado, 7-6(4), 6-2, to claim the girls’ U-18 title, while Ella Paglalunan stunned No. 1 Isabel Ataiza, 6-0, 6-1, to pocket the girls’ U-12 title.

Makati City’s Alexandre Coyiuto won the boys’ U-14 title over Troan Vytiaco, 6-0, 6-2; and QC’S Marcus Go beat Matthias Go, 6-0, 6-0, for the boys’ U-12 title.

Bataan’s Jacob Dizon captured the unisex U-10 crown over Francis Angeles, 4-0, 4-2. He then teamed up with Maximus Calingasan to pocket the doubles title over Azl Gonzaga and Terrence Bataliones, 8-6.

Ansay and Ballado conquered Mercado and Elyssa Abellera, 8-5, in the girls’ U-18 doubles while Matthias Go and Cristiano Calingasan outplayed Vytiaco and Joshua Stewart, 8-6, in the boys’ U-14 doubles final.*(pna)
