LAGAWE, Ifugao -The dedication of firemen in doing their job coupled with the sustained support of the community has led to lower damages due to fire in the province.

In an interview over Radyo Kiphodan, Acting Ifugao Provincial Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Joefrey Gano disclosed that a total of P9,597,000 worth of properties was damaged by fire in 2016 compared to P20, 364,000 in 2015. Residential houses were the common structures affected by fire incident followed by grass or forest fire and motor vehicle.

“The decrease is attributed to the good partnership of BFP personnel and stakeholders especially during the conduct of inspections of buildings and establishments in the various municipalities. They allowed us to inspect their respective structures for safety precaution,” he said.

Gano also disclosed that the various municipal fire stations are regularly conducting fire prevention campaign and distribution of reading materials on fire safety measures in schools and to the public.

The BFP official reiterated some fire safety tips such as avoid electrical overloading, unplug all electrical appliances every after use, check all electrical installations regularly, check gas stove and LPG tanks for leak; keep children away from flammable liquids, matches and lighters, and avoid smoking in bed.

“Fire prevention is not only the work of the BFP but a collaborative effort of the community to avoid loss of life and properties,” Gano stated.
