KIANGAN, Ifugao -- The municipal government here is mobilizing the Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners and implementers in the area to help in the war on waste (WOW).

Mayor Joselito Guyuyon has approved and released funding for a 3-day skills trainingworkshop for ALS learners and implementers in recycling and processing waste materials into profitable and quality products.

ALS District Coordinator Ariel Dulawan said he made the training proposal noting that ALS implementers are catering to many out-of school children, youths and adults who could be of great help in the WOW program of the municipality.

The training which was conducted recently provided basic skills and knowledge on the programs and projects of the municipal government in the reduction of solid waste materials through recycling and processing. It also encouraged the participants to actively participate in proper waste management as they were taught pouch making and rags recycling, flower vase making and stuff toys making using the solid waste materials and garbage being collected.

Kiangan is the leading implementer of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management law in Ifugao.

Tha town is heeding the call of President Rodrigo Duterte that local government units would be held responsible in the management of their garbage as a strategy to counter the impact of climate change.
