PRO-Cor’s Oplan Katok nets 100 loose firearms

CAMP Bado Dangwa – The continued checkpoints and “Oplan Katok” of the Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PROCor) resulted in the retrieval of at least 100 loose – unregistered and unlicensed – firearms in the 1st quarter of 2017.

Search warrants served resulted in the arrest of two individuals and confiscation of several guns and ammunition.

PRO-Cor information officer, Chief Inspector Carolina Lacuata said Silverio Juan was arrested in his residence at Purok Guinto, Poblacion East, Flora, Apayao on March 24 for keeping firearms and ammunition without pertinent documents.

Seized were one cal. 45, one magazine and 17 live ammunitions; 18 fired cartridges of cal .45; and one long firearm flash suppressor.

Police also arrested Leonardo Linggayo in his residence at Purok 1, Cudal, Tabuk City, Kalinga on March 15.

Items seized from Linggayo were cal. 30 Carbine with defaced serial number; one magazine loaded with 25 ammunition and assorted ammunition for cal .45 and cal .22 pistol and a magazine for cal .9mm pistol with three live ammunition.

In an operation on March 14, police seized a Smith and Wesson cal .38 revolver defaced serial number; nine rounds of ammunition for a cal .38 and a cal .45; one homemade 12gauge shotgun and one empty magazine for cal .45 in the residence of a former Provincial Board member who Lacuata did not name.

Michael Elis Leano, a resident of Tuba, Benguet surrendered a 9mm Armscor pistol bearing serial number (SN) 4001744 to the Camp 1 Police Community Precinct (PCP).

Lacuata said Leano found the pistol at Camp 1, Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet with one magazine loaded with one bullet.

PRO-Cor is serious in the enforcement of this special law on illegal possession of firearms and other illegal activities.

She reiterated the importance of cooperation of the public through reporting anyone who violates the law to the nearest police station. PNA
