Young guns rack up three golds in MPC archery
BAGUIO’S up and coming archers surprised the competition and took home three gold medals and a silver during the Manila Polo Club – Boysen Archery Tournament over the weekend.
Mitz Mae Tabayag, Albert Gambican, Denny Hanz Binhaon topped their respective age division while Darick Faroden took home silver in the 8 10 years old category.
“Maganda yung pinakita ng mga bata. Marami nga ang nagulat kasi parang hindi daw beginner,” said an ecstatic coach Franklin Espiritu.
The youngest of the four, Faroden took – up archery after getting inspired by a local television hit show “Robinhood.”
“Natutuwa ako pag pinapanuod ko kaya ako nag archery,” said the eight year old
Faroden.
Espiritu meanwhile added the dedication to training paid off for the young upstarts who are seen to be among the top archers in the city in the coming years.
With their recent victory, coaches are seeking ways to include the elementary division in the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association hoping to serve as a feeder program for the high school squad.
Coach John Hongitan said archery remains to be among the sport were Cordilleran excel and with the inclusion of elementary in the regional meet, this will help the region improve its grass roots training for archery.
Archery is also one of the top medal producers for the region in the Palarong Pambansa since the sport started to gain popularity in the Cordillera.
“We hope na sana idagdag na ng DepEd yung elementary kasi maganda rin na habang maaga pa eh nasasanay na ang mga bata sa competition,” added Hongitan. Roderick Osis
