Grade six teachers undertake K to 12 Training
TO FAMILIARIZE the grade six teachers on the various and unique features of the K to 12 Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum (BEC), known as Republic Act 10533 on its sixth year and full implementation nationwide by this school year 2017-2018, 554 grade six teachers in the Division of Benguet underwent a one-week mass training at Brentwood Apartelle, Baguio City on May 7-13.
Dr. Federico P. Martin, Schools Division Superintendent of Benguet prodded the teachers to be optimistic about the training in order to satisfy their customers or the learners.
Highlighting the training was the understanding of the conceptual framework in all the elementary subjects. The framework comprises the main goals to be achieved, organized content areas of the curriculum from first to the fourth quarter, specific skills and processes expected to be developed by the learners, values and attitudes to be honed in teaching the competencies, appropriate tools to be used, underlying learning principles and theories and contextual factors of Filipino learners that may influence their studies.
The resource speakers guided the participants on how to use the curriculum guides per subject area which comprise the content, content standards, performance standards, learning competencies, code, and learning materials. They emphasized that learners must not only gain knowledge but be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired from their lessons.
Lucio B. Alawas, Chief Education Supervisor on Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) tackled differentiated instruction. He pointed out that gone were those days where teachers lecture for the whole day. He added that teachers must use a variety of instructional strategies considering students’ readiness, interests, learning profile and environment.
Meanwhile, Rizalyn A. Guznian, Chief Education Supervisor on Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) identified ways on how to localize or indigenize the curriculum. She implied that teachers should have a continuing dialogue with the community.
Wilfred C. Bagsao, Education Program Supervisor for Math in the Division of Benguet presented the assessment and rating system based on DepEd Memo No.60, series 2015 (Provision of Electronic Class Record Template). He revealed that raw scores of learners in the written works and performance tasks are not just basis in giving their grades but as reference in giving them appropriate interventions, remediation, enrichment or other strategies to help those students who perform below the expected standards.
On the other hand, Nestor L. Bolayo, OfficerIn-Charge /Assistant Schools Division Superintendent in the Division of Benguet challenged the teachers to reflect their learnings from the training in their Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF). He told the mentors of their crucial roles as mentors and builders for the next generation. He also bore that the P 4.2 million budget for the training came from DepEd Central Office.
Teachers who are at least three years in the service are going to use the Daily Lesson Logs (DLL) while those who have less than three years of experience in teaching were advised to prepare Daily Lesson Plans (DLP).
