Security up for terrorism

MAYOR Maurico Domogan has ordered the police to have a tighter monitoring for terrorist groups who may plan to enter the city.

“I have asked the BCPO to make this a priority concern.”

Domogan said although there are no reported movement of terrorist groups here, more precaution­s are to be taken.

Baguio City Acting Police Director Ramil Saculles said regular pre emptive measure s are being taken with a strengthen­ing of checkpoint­s, aggressive mobile patrols with barangay coordinati­on.

Domogan said the because of the declaratio­n of Martial Law in Mindanao, the entire country in on high alert to secure their areas against terrorism.

Domogan said there is a danger posed by groups taking advantage of Islam asking

the help of the thriving Muslim community to be vigilant.

Saculles met with leaders in the Muslim community, Thursday morning for security concerns.

Domogan said a request will also be made to the national headquarte­rs of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to give the city additional men to secure the city.

The chief executive said the local council will be met and directed to make a resolution asking for the additional police force

President Rodrigo Duterte on 10 p.m. Tuesday declared martial law in the entire Mindanao Island amid the ongoing clashes between government troops and Maute group terrorists in Marawi City.

Duterte on Wednesday floated the possibilit­y of declaring martial law, not just in Mindanao, but in the entire country.

Under Section 18, Article 7 of 1987 Constituti­on, the President can declare martial law "in case of invasion or rebellion, when public safety requires it." A President is privileged to declare martial law in 60 days if Congress approves such declaratio­n. With a report from Sunnex
