Local Muay fighters storm national open

BAGUIO - Benguet based fighters emerged victorious after plucking 19 gold, 16 silver and nine bronze medals at the close of the Muay Thai National Open in Paranaque City during the weekend.

Muay Thai Associatio­n of the Philippine­s - Baguio Chapter president Bryan Olod close to 143 athletes from the different parts of the country took part in the two day event held at the Elorde Sports Complex.

Leading the gold medal charge for the highland warriors are Cazzel Gatinao and Darren Padsingan winning first place in the juniors 51 and 48 kilograms respective­ly.

Other gold medalists include Aldrich Toralba, Iverson Baniaga,Mark Sumalag, Reshie Bagni, Rainielle Juene

Mabiasan, Mariah Co, Jerrianne Mae Leo, Islay Erika Bomogao, Rosemarie Recto, Quilord Lendsey Dang-aay, Carissa Tarapen, and Jenelyn Olsim.

Also winning the gold medals are Zephania Ngaya, Ezra Saclag, Kurt Lubrica, Felex Dave Cantores, and Jayson Cosme.

Silver medalists include Daryl Chulipas, Jhanlo Sangiao, Kian Brent Baniaga, Nelson Bantiyan, June Rey Wag-eyen, Daniel Laurejas, Daniel Dave Egsaen, Laurence Balanza, Christian Ende, Jayvie Mae Espada, Shaura Tolmod, Jovelyn Pascual, Randall Tupac, Rosal Balaybay, Blu Thunder Amdengan and Xander Alipio.

Winning the bronze medals are Leomar Mateo, Jefferson Quino, Kevin Kurt Katter, Angelica Daniel, Wilfredo Padua, Roderick Hilario, Jomar Balangui, Bryan Aban, and Kevin Lampacan.

Olod meanwhile lauded the support of Baguio City for providing transporta­tion, and allowance for the athletes.

It can be recalled Muay Thai fighters coming from the highland also topped the Baguio leg of the Muay Thai National Open held in earlier in March and the 2016 Muay Thai National Open.

Dumaguete is set to host the third round of the tournament set in July later this year. Roderick Osis
