Independence day activities set
BAGUIO CITY – The city joins National Flag Day celebration on May 28 with a simple Program set 8 a.m. at the Gen. Emilio Shrine in Salud Mitra barangay.
Gen. Emilio F. Aguinado Foundation board member Emilio Aguinado Suntay III will once again grace the program with Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
It will be capped by a tour of the Gen. Aguinaldo Museum.
The celebration will run till June 12 where all government buildings and facilities and even residences are enjoined to display the Philippine Flag.
This year, the first “Lakbay Kasarinlan Festival: Road to Independence” will be celebrated by the Aguinaldo museum kicking off May 28, Sunday at the Aguinaldo Park.
The festival aims to commemorate both the Philippine National Flag Day and the Philippine Independence Day in a 15-day celebration.
Activities include opening celebrations on the 28th with an Art Expo hosted by the Pasakalye Arts Community, Bonfire Nights at the Aguinaldo Park, a Bazaar and Food expo celebrating the flavors off the North hosted by the Department of Tourism, a free outdoor film expo courtesy of Cinematheque Baguio Filipino films depicting history and classic films with the works of Lino Brocka, a Poetry and Literature with the Spoken Word Poetry slam as the highlight, War Games, Music Expo performers include the performing groups from Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, Glenn Gaerlan, and Bryan Termulo.
A Flag Run on June 12 with distances ranging from 1k, 3k, 5k, to 10k and registration at Php 350, Php 500 and Php 750 respectively, inclusive of T-shirt, Flaglet, Finsher medal, trophy and medal for top placers. The fun run ends in a Color Blast at the finish line after which a concert will be held to celebrate the victors of the run and as well as to officially celebrate the Philippine National Independence Day.
An Independence vigil will also be done, all ending in a bang with the fireworks hour on June 12 hosted by the City Government in tribute to the Philippines Independence Day celebrations.
The celebration is line with Republic Act No. 8491 otherwise known as “An Act Prescribing the Code of the National Flag, Anthem, Motto, Coat-ofArms and other Heraldic Items and Devices of the Philippines.”
