Folk fear South Drive collapse
SOUTH Drive road might be in danger.
In fear of having another case of collapse, ABC president Micheal Lawana wants an investigation.
“The erosion of the ground underneath requires validation in order to avert a looming Gibraltar collapsed road in the making,” said Lawana.
Lawana, in a resolution requested the Department of Public Works and Highways, the City Buildings and Architecture Office [CBAO] as well as South drive village chief Maribel Cagalawan to face the local council to shed light on the construction
happening in the area which has affected the road.
The city official has likewise called on the building owner, Eusebio Aquino as well as contractor, EBA Construction to help clarify and pacify fears of residents in the area.
The construction will pave way for a high rise building and has taken the space of three lots in South Drive.
However, there have been complaints by residents on ground subsidence as well as the fear of the road to give in because of the ongoing work.
“To date almost half of the road has already been closed due to the subsidence to the detriment of the riding public, motorist and general public,” Lawana said.
Lawana, representing the barangays in the city said his attention has been called as reports reveal the initial stage of construction, particularly the sidewalk was already used by the builders to park their equipments.
“The weight of the equipment and construction materials had led to erosion subsidence of the ground underneath the road, causing danger to life, limb and property,” said Lawana.
Lawana added the ongoing construction at South Drive had resulted to traffic woes because of subsidence exacerbated by the absence of traffic personnel to man traffic.
The issue will be taken up in Monday’s regular session
