Cafgu cheats death, minors escape shooting in Abra

A member of the CAFGU Active Auxillary cheated death after his supposed gunman missed following a shooting incident in Licuan - Baay, Abra.

The CAFGU member, identified as Odilo Barcena Valera, 39, CAA member and resident of Barangay Mogao, Licuan-Baay was passing by barangay Nalbuan when the shooting incident happened.

However, the gunman, identified as Winifredo Salabit Ganub, 63, male, married, carpenter, native of Vilar, Bohol and resident of Sitio Baquero in Nalbuan missed the victim.

According to a police report, the victim is traversing the Abra-Kalinga national road on board of a motorcycle when he passed-by the suspect’s store.

Ganub allegedly shouted at the victim to stop then hurriedly went inside his store. The victim continued slowly and when he was more than 50 meters away, the suspect came out and fired at Valera for no apparent reason, but missed, using a long Cal 22.

The suspect later surrendere­d to LicuanBaay municipal police station after the incident but the firearm used was unrecovere­d.

Both parties agreed the case be endorsed to the barangay for possible settlement.

In Lagayan town, two minors and two other also escaped death when they were shot by three individual­s.

Police identified the victims, aside from the two minors are Catherine Aquino Donato, 34, married and Edelyn Dawigay Donato, 19, student of Pulot National High School, all residents of Brgy Pulot, Lagayan.

Probers disclosed while the victims were on their way home to Pulot on board two motorcycle­s, the alleged suspects identified as Benjie Andres Vista, 36, single, unemployed, Rubio Sindon, of legal age, male, married and Fortunato Rodriquez, of legal age, male, married, also residents of Barangay Pulot, suddenly fired at them several times.

The suspects however missed their target.

Responding personnel of Lagayan police were able to recover five fired cartridge shells of Cal. 45 at the crime scene.

Hot pursuit operation was conducted against the suspects but yielded negative result.
