Discussions set on state of water supply
THE “Baguio We Want,” (BWW) a citizen's movement working for a liveable and sustainable Baguio City, will be holding a dialogue on August 4 at the University of the Philippines Baguio on the state of water to be able to address the depleting supply being experienced here.
Mita Dimalanta, head of BWW trees and water sector and the vice president of Pine Cone Movement, in an invitation letter said the event is a community meeting on Baguio’s bulk water.
There will be a discussion the status of the supply of the important resource, whether there will be enough water to sustain the growing population including getting an answer on who should own and manage the city’s water supply.
Dimalanta said there will be panelists who will discuss the positive and negative issues surrounding the city’s water supply.
She said the group came up with the activity so that as early as possible, there could be moves to solve the problems which all
residents will face in the future.
“We never know the worth of water till the well is dry,” she said.
The Baguio We Want movement was formed in 2015 by former Baguio Bishop Carlito Cenzon together with the Baguio Diocese, Baguio Heritage Foundation, Baguio Citizens’ No waste Initiative, Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary, Pine Cone Movement, Save 182, and Tongtongan ti Umili.
Its initial formation which was done in a summit was to get achievement reports from different clusters regarding issues affecting the city which includes: citizen participation in elections; environmental problems such as protection of trees and water resources and proper waste management; strict enforcement of land use and zoning policies; and awareness in heritage preservation with the primary aim of identifying solutions to the problems.
