P60K hot lumbers seized

ILLEGAL logs worth nearly P60,000 were confiscate­d by authoritie­s during the weekend.

Boyet Docao Anaban, 31, and a resident of Barangay Balugan, Sagada, Mountain Province was accosted while driving an elf truck bearing Plate WHZ 877 loaded with sawn pine lumber in a checkpoint at Sinto Proper, Bauko.

Confiscate­d from his possession were 270 pieces of pine lumber in different dimensions with total board feet of 1,645.75 and a market value of P46,081.

In Benguet, Jonie Sabado Decaran, 28, a resident of Goldfield, Acupan in Itogon was arrested by the police last week. Confiscate­d were 51 pieces of Gemelina lumber in different measuremen­t

with total board feet of 612.51 worth P20, 611.54.

In Apayao, personnel of Pudtol Municipal Police Station, while conducting patrol recovered 10 pieces of soft wood (tangile) in different dimensions in the morning of August 5 at the river side of Cabatacan, Pudtol.

Prior to the confiscati­on, patrolling policemen saw a group of unidentifi­ed male persons in the area and upon noticing their arrival they suddenly fled away.

“The police will continue to hit hard on all forms of illegal activities especially illegal gambling activities and illegal logging in the region,” said PRO-COR regional director Chief Superinten­dent Francis Elmo Sarona

Police also arrested illegal gamblers in Baguio City as part of its revitalize­d campaign on illegal gambling.

Joint operatives of the Baguio City Police Office arrested three gamblers in the act of playing cards along the road of Middle Quirino Hill.

Arrested gamblers were identified as Jordan Ngawet Baniwas, 51, laborer, a resident of West Quirino Hill, Baguio City, Roger Esteban Ruis, 68, Carpenter, a resident of Middle Quirino Hill, Baguio City and Gil Managtag Domingo, 63, unemployed and a resident of West Quirino Hill, Baguio City.

Recovered from the suspects were 52 pieces playing cards, cash money amounting to Php70.00 and one wooden stool.

In another operation, three more gamblers were arrested in the act of playing cards at Crystal Cave Rd., Bakakeng Central.

Arrested were identified as Anito Abaigar y Albina, 47, a resident of Bakakeng Central; and Beth Pnis Y Almoite, 57, a resident of Bakakeng Centra while Julie Salinas Y Taran escaped and is now subject for manhunt operation.

Confiscate­d from the suspects were six sets of playing cards, 146 pieces of domino style- tiles, and bet money amounting to P430.00.

Sarona said police in the region were ordered to intensify their anti-illegal gambling operations and go after violators especially those financers who operate discretely through remote controls from pension houses, inns and hotels, as their centers of operations.

Baguio cops also arrested Ronnel Siron Mallari, 52; Eddie De Guzman Victorio, 49, both residents of Purok 7, Honeymoon; and Camilo Apolinario Sibal, 60, a resident of New Lucban for illegal gambling.

During the operation, confiscate­d were 52 pieces plastic playing cards; one piece improvised wooden table, two plastic chairs, one wood chair, and cash amounting to P655.00.

In another operation, gambling parapherna­lia were recovered inside the Street Side Cafe along M. Roxas, Trancovill­e, in the night of August 6, 2017. Recovered items were set of mahjong tiles. Roderick Osis
