Order of National Artist now open for nominations
TNationalHE National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), led by its chairman, Artist Virgilio Almario, and executive director Rico S. Pableo Jr., and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), led by its chairman Emily Abrera and president Nick Lizaso, is now accepting nominations for the Order of National Artist Award.
Jointly administered by the NCCA and CCP and conferred by the President of the Philippines, the Order of National Artist is the highest national recognition given to Filipino artists who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.
Since its creation in 1972, 66 artists have been bestowed the honor for their significant contributions to country. They were recognized for their superior artistic accomplishment that promotes creative expression which is essential to the development of our national cultural identity and for their dedication to their crafts, forging new paths for future generations of Filipino artists.
Artists will only be nominated under one category where the he/she has made his/her most substantial contribution but his/her other merits will be added in the citation as well. The categories are dance, music, theater, visual arts, literature, film and broadcast arts, design, and architecture and allied arts.
Their achievements will be measured in terms of their vision, unusual insight, creativity and imagination, technical proficiency of the highest order in expressing Filipino culture and traditions, history, way of life and aspirations.
The complete guidelines for the Order of National Artists as well as process of nomination and conferment of the order can be viewed on the NCCA website (www.ncca.gov.ph). Likewise the nomination form, which must be completed, can also be downloaded from the website.
