Charter day celeb highlights Baguio as city of champions

THIS YEAR’S charter anniversar­y celebratio­n of Baguio City will feature the Summer Capital as the land of champions.

This is to highlight the fact the city produced a lot of frontrunne­rs in various competitio­ns nationally and internatio­nally this year which needs drumbeatin­g as it serves to prove that the city is moving towards excellence in various fields, according to Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Councior Elmer Datuin.

In keeping with the theme, “Baguio at 108: The Land of Champions,” the city invited Mixed Martial Arts world champion Eduard Folayang as guest of honor and speaker during the Baguio Day program on Sept. 1.

Datuin said Folayang will lead other winners of internatio­nal competitio­ns including Ms. Internatio­nal Kylie Verzosa who will be honored along with the outstandin­g citizens of Baguio during the program.

Baguio Day celebratio­n co-chair city administra­tor Carlos Canilao said that as in the past years, a calendar of activities will mark the celebratio­n for the whole month of September.

Highlights include the Baguio Day Health Fair at the Baguio Convention Center on August 25 to render various free medical services to indigents, Ms. Baguio and Mr. Baguio pageants, Job Fair on Sept. 16 at the Baguio Convention Center, concerts, cultural shows and various sports competitio­ns.
