The luckiest school in Bakun District

-

LABINIO-Acquisio Elementary School (LAES) is a public elementary school at Sookan, Gambang, Bakun, Benguet. It has a total population of 114 pupils.

Supplementary books and other reading materials for the children to use was not enough so Mrs. Elsie Pilando, one of the parents of the said school suggested that the teachers will make a request to a foundation named LINKS BUILDING BRIDGES FOR CHILDREN FOR BOOKS. Mrs. Elsie Pilando informed Mrs. Dolores G. Fidel, a grade six adviser in the said school that some districts were given free books through this foundation so they tried to make a request letter and signed by the teacher in charge last November 28, 2016 which was then given by Mrs. Pilando to Ma’am Mary Rose Busacay.

The school staff thought they may have been turned down because the school year will end soon and they have not heard any news whether the request was granted or not.

On August 12, 2017, two months after beginning of school year 2017-2018, Ma’am Badette Villanueva, Ma’am Joanne Suyam and Ma’am Mary Rose Busacay with the assistance of Mrs. Elsie Pilando, delivered five boxes of assorted reading materials and one box of assorted school supplies. The school head, teaching staff, and the pupils were very happy to know that there request was indeed granted by the foundation with its partner Douglas and friends from Scotland.

Without delay, the school supplies were distributed to the excited pupils on August 14, 2017, while the reading materials were placed at the school library to be used as reference and reading materials.

“Mamayat din libro ya din indawat da ay uusar mi”. (The books and things given to us were beautiful) the pupils complimented.

The books were really great. They were colorful and have lots of pictures. We’re sure the pupils will be more interested in reading them. These reading materials/ books will definitely help in the growth of knowledge of our pupils. LAES staff said.

It was later on found out that it was only Labinio-Acquisio Elementary School (LAES) was given the opportunity to receive reading materials/books and school supplies from the foundation in Bakun District.

The staff, pupils, parents and the school head, Ma’am Aurelia Bayawa Atonen wants to express their heartfelt gratitude to Ma’am Villanueva, Ma’am Suyam and Ma’am Busacay for delivering these materials and to Mrs. Pilando for her unwaring support and assistance
