Belingon pushing for rematch with Bibiano
WITH Kevin Belingon practically flatting out Reece Mclaren in their recent encounter, the Team Lakay bantamweight may once again challenge reigning One Championship title holder Bibiano Fernandes.
Since he was submitted by Fernandes back in January 2016, he has been on a tear and had quite arguably the best performance of his career after defeating McLaren Friday evening in Malaysia.
Their bout was
anticipated to be a close three-round affair, but in stunning fashion, Belingon ended it in the very first round.
Right off the opening bell, the Aussie marched forward with punches, but Belingon wisely angled out and dropped him with a picture-perfect right hand then relentlessly grounded-and-pounded his way to victory.
One Championship, in its website said “by defeating both Tauru and McLaren in thrilling fashion, as well as top prospect Muin Gafurov, Belingon has certainly done enough to earn another shot at Fernandes.”
The 29 – year – old fighter, in his recent interviews said his ultimate goal is to have a rematch with Fernandes and eventually win the title.
Following his submission setback to Fernandes, Belingon took several months off before re-emerging in October 2016 by handing rising martial arts star Muin Gafurov of Tajikistan his second professional loss.
Belingon followed it up with an astounding knockout conquest of Finnish dynamo Toni Tauru last April in front of a sold-out crowd at the 20,000-capacity SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
“My dream of finally becoming a world champion is still there. It still lives in my heart,” Belingon said. Roderick Osis
