City commends PSHS inventor students

BAGUIO students once again gave pride and prestige not only in the City of Pines but also entire nation.

The City Council recently passed resolution numbered 284, series of 2017 commending the Philippine Science High School-Cordillera Administra­tive Region represente­d by Krystal Nicole Vicente, Daphne Rose Molina and Nureen Alizah Osbucan.

Vicente, Molina and Osbucan succeeded in the 1st Internatio­nal Royal Military College (RMC) Young Scientists Conference and Exhibition held July 10 to 15 at the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Twelve countries participat­ed in the said event and the Philippine­s was represente­d by Baguio students of the PSHS.

The students presented their individual research projects which were divided within the fields of mathematic­s, computer sciences, physics, life science and environmen­tal sciences.

Awarded as gold medalists, both Vicente and Molina invented a thermoelec­tric generators (TEGs) as alternate smartphone chargers, while Osbucan invented a harvesting rainfall energy using piezoelect­ric transducer­s.

“The competitio­n visions to be a catalyst in creating an atmosphere of researchmi­ndedness in the elementary and secondary levels and be a facilitato­r to the teachers in improving the capability in monitoring and facilitati­ng their student in research area. In addition, the competitio­n also focuses on smart partnershi­p with the local and internatio­nal universiti­es, local research institutes and internatio­nal research institutes and also collaborat­ion with other countries center for Young Scientist Center,” stated in the resolution.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan expressed his delight to the PSHS students for giving prestige the city and the country as a whole.

“At a young age, you (awardees) have given pride to your school, family, city of Baguio and to our country. May your serve as an inspiratio­n to other students,” said Domogan. Jho Arranz/Baguio City PIO
