Mishaps mar He­roes Day celeb

AT least one farmer was killed while sev­eral oth­ers were hurt in a se­ries of ac­ci­dents in the dif­fer­ent parts of the Cordillera re­gion.

A farmer died in Apayao prov­ince while three oth­ers were in­jured after a sports util­ity ve­hi­cle (SUV) al­legedly rammed in a side­walk along the na­tional high­way in Quirino, Luna.

Author­i­ties iden­ti­fied the fa­tal­ity as Mele­cio Cariaga Sr., 83 years old, mar­ried, farmer and a res­i­dent of Quirino, Luna, Apayao while the in­jured were Mar­lon Ma­casaddu Sa­mu­dio, 36, mar­ried, driver, a res­i­dent of barangay Ca­masi, Peñablanca, Ca­gayan; Atty. Luis Tu­ma­mao Do­nato, Jr., 40, mar­ried, lawyer, and a res­i­dent of Tugue­garao City, Ca­gayan and Rocen­ito Tu­manao So­ri­ano, 53,

mar­ried, body­guard, a res­i­dent of An­dan­gan, Solana, Ca­gayan.

Ini­tial po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion showed the SUV driven by Sa­mu­dio was travers­ing the road en route to junc­tion Luna in Abu­lug, Ca­gayan when he at­tempted to over­take a tri­cy­cle.

After fail­ing to over­take, the driver was forced to bring back the ve­hi­cle to its orig­i­nal lane but lost con­trol of the steer­ing wheel and even­tu­ally ram­ming into the vic­tim who was on the side of the road that in­flicted se­ri­ous in­juries on his head and body.

The vic­tim was rushed to the ApayaoCa­gayan Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Abu­lug, Ca­gayan but he was de­clared dead on ar­rival by at­tend­ing physi­cians.

The case is still un­der­go­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the con­cerned po­lice op­er­a­tives to as­cer­tain the re­spon­si­bil­i­ties of the con­cerned par­ties.

In Benguet prov­ince, an elf truck fell into a five me­ter deep ravine in si­tio Palew, Caponga, Tublay at around three in the morn­ing of Au­gust 28.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, Cris­tian Pay-ong Ro­driguez, 20, sin­gle, and a res­i­dent of Tawang La Trinidad, was driv­ing the ve­hi­cle to­gether with his three mi­nor com­pan­ions when he sud­denly dozed off while travers­ing Halsema High­way.

The three mi­nors in­clud­ing the driver sus­tained mi­nor in­juries in the dif­fer­ent parts of their bod­ies and was brought to the Benguet Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal for med­i­cal treat­ment.

In Ifu­gao, a util­ity ve­hi­cle and a mo­tor­cy­cle col­lide in La­mut in the evening of Au­gust 28.

Po­lice dis­closed at around 7:40 p.m., the util­ity ve­hi­cle driven by Renz Leo Mil­lano Bautista, 20 years old, sin­gle, stu­dent and a res­i­dent of Pobla­cion East, La­mut, Ifu­gao bumped a mo­tor­cy­cle driven by Jairish Sison Yar­cia, 20 years old, sin­gle, con­struc­tion worker and a res­i­dent of Bakir, Bagabag, Nueva, Viz­caya.

In­ves­ti­ga­tion dis­closed the mo­tor­cy­cle was travers­ing the na­tional high­way to­wards Nueva Viz­caya from Pobla­cion, La­mut, Ifu­gao when it bumped into the util­ity ve­hi­cle in the op­po­site di­rec­tion.

The util­ity ve­hi­cle in­curred dam­ages on its right rim tire and scratches on its right door while the mo­tor­cy­cle in­curred dam­ages on its front por­tion with Yar­cia suf­fer­ing in­juries on his feet. Rod­er­ick Osis
