2 Igorot boxers eye ring return
TWO former boxing title contenders are eyeing ring return after a long layoff.
Former WBO Oriental bantamweight champion Dayer Gabutan and Ex WBC Asian Boxing Council continental featherweight champion Alvin Tam will try to pick up from where they left off as they see action in September and October in separate venues.
Gabutan who hails from Bauko, Mt. Province, last saw action in June last year and will try to redeem himself after a knockout loss against Roilo Golez.
The six time oriental champion whose record stands at 19 wins with 10 coming by way of a knockout, six losses, and three draw will eye revenge against Golez in their rematch tentatively set on September 23 at the La Trinidad Municipal Gymnasium in the event dubbed Highland Brawl: The Return Bout.
Prior to his long layoff, Gabutan lost five of his six bouts including a knockout Xiaojun Qiu on September 2015 for the WBC silver super bantamweight title held in Hangzhou, China.
His last victory was in October 2014 when he defeated Mike Espanosa via a technical knockout.
Gabutan is reportedly back to school at the Benguet State University who had a 13 fight win streak from November 2009 to March 2013 defeating Lande Olin in the second round, his last defense of the WBO oriental crown before moving up as a super bantamweight.
Tam on the other hand, who is now based in Canada, returns to the ring once again on October 14 at the Genesis center in Calgary where he is set to take on Jesus Perez.
The son of former OPBF super featherweight Rey of Kapangan, Benguet, Tam is 13-5 as a professional and last fought in 2015 where he yielded to Roody Pierre Paul via unanimous decision. Roderick Osis
