DApro­files Ifu­gao agri ex­ten­sion work­ers

LAMUT, Ifu­gao -- The Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture- Cordillera Ad­min­is­tra­tive (DACAR) has un­der­taken the pro­fil­ing of all Agri­cul­ture Ex­ten­sion Work­ers (AEWs) in this province to de­ter­mine gaps and con­cerns as well as rec­om­men­da­tions to strengthen de­liv­ery of ex­ten­sion sup­port in the coun­try­side.

The AEWs pro­filed are those un­der the Rice and Live­stock Ban­ner Pro­gram, Corn Ban­ner Pro­gram and the High Value Crop Devel­op­ment Pro­gram which are part of the DA’s in­ten­si­fi­ca­tion of the agri­cul­ture and fishery sec­tors to­wards food se­cu­rity and sus­tain­abil­ity by strength­en­ing the agri­cul­ture ex­ten­sion ser­vices.

The tar­geted re­spon­dents of this pro­fil­ing sur­vey are all the AEWs in the lo­cal gov­ern­ment units (LGUs) un­der­tak­ing agri­cul­ture and fishery ex­ten­sion ser­vices whether per­ma­nent or reg­u­lar em­ploy­ees, ca­sual em­ploy­ees, con­trac­tual or job or­der em­ploy­ees, lo­cal field tech­ni­cians and all tech­ni­cal items.

This aims to de­ter­mine and as­sess the gaps, is­sues and ex­pe­ri­ences of the dif­fer­ent LGUs in the province as front­lines in un­der­tak­ing ex­ten­sion ser­vices

and as­sess their dif­fer­ent ex­ten­sion ac­tiv­i­ties as to im­ple­men­ta­tion of re­search and devel­op­ment reg­u­la­tory ac­tiv­i­ties.

The iden­ti­fied main is­sues and con­cerns of AEWs will help the na­tional gov­ern­ment to fur­ther de­ter­mine the lo­gis­ti­cal and tech­ni­cal needs of the ex­ten­sion sup­port in the coun­try and the rec­om­men­da­tions for an ef­fec­tive and ef­fi­cient de­liv­ery of the ex­ten­sion sup­port to fur­ther in­sti­gate en­hance­ment of the Na­tional Ex­ten­sion Agenda and Pro­grams for 2017-2022.

There are 114 AEWs in Ifu­gao- 46 are un­der the Rice Ban­ner Pro­gram and 68 un­der the Non-Rice Ban­ner Pro­gram that in­clude corn, fishery live­stock and high value crops. Daniel Co­da­mon/ PIA – CAR
