All Star volleyball hits the net Sept 3.

SEVEN of the country’s top women volleyball players are set to thrill Baguio crowd in a one day event aimed to help an ailing former employee of the Bureau of Customs.

Expected to join the All Star Volleyball event expected to hit the nest on September 3 at the UB Gym are Michelle Gumabao, Rose Vargas, Cha Cruz, Melissa Gohing, Myka Pablo, and Gyzel Sy in the event backed by the City Government of Baguio as part of the month long Charter Day celebratio­n.

The All Stars are set to take on the best collegiate players from the Baguio – Benguet Educationa­l Athletic League.

Organizers added players from the women’s defending champion University of Baguio, University of the Cordillera­s and Saint Louis University.

The exhibition match among the 10 other sports event lined up for the city’s 108th Charter Day that will last until October.

A volleyball tournament will also take centerstag­e on Sept. 1 and 2 with the best varsity players from the city and nearby Benguet seeing action in the tournament

On Sept. 2 and 3, the Baguio Athletic Bowl will host the the Baguio Day Invitation­al Archery while locals will be pitted against top tile pushers from Metro Manila and the Ilocos region for the Baguio Day Scrabble Tournament set on Sept. 9 and 10.

“We expect a good number of players from Metro Manila so much so that two players will train for an internatio­nal tournament in Africa later this year,” said Baguio-Benguet Word Builders Club president Huub Luyk, who is one of the main players in pushing for the sport.

Other events include the: Baguio Day Mountain Bike Fun Ride (Spt. 9); Baguio Day Arnis National Championsh­ips (Sept. 23-24); the Baguio Day Sanda Challenge (Sept. 29-Oct 1); and, the Baguio Day Swimming Competitio­n at the Baguio swimming pool on a date yet to be announced.

The city sports office caused the release of P250,000 equally divided among the events.

Four others events are also lined up like the Mr. Baguio “Nic Domalsin Cup”, the Milo Little Olympics, the Baguio Day Run and the Baguio Day Football Cup.
