5,000 athletes begin quest in Little Olympics
ATHLETES coming from North and Central Luzon being their hunt for medals as the Milo Little Olympics opens today at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
For the fifth straight year, Baguio City host one of the largest sporting event in Luzon with close to 5,000 athletes in the high school and elementary division seeing action in the three day sports event.
“It’s all systems go for our North and Central Luzon Milo Little Olympics and with Baguio eyeing the hosting of Palarong Pambansa, we believe that this will serve as a dry run for the bigger sports event,” said Milo Sports executive Lester Castillo.
Student athletes coming from Regions I, II, III and the Cordil-
lera Administrative Region coming from over 180 schools will compete in arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, karatedo, gymnastics, scrabble, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
Baguio City High School will have its hands full as it defends the over-all crown in the high school division as they gun for supremacy for fifth straight years and expected to challenge City High’s reign is University of Baguio who came in second.
Holy Angel University meanwhile seeks to improve its third place finish last year with Urdaneta City National High School and Olongapo City National High School hoping for a better finish this year.
In the elementary division, San Vicente Elementary School will defend the crown and sees a tough contest against University of Baguio – Laboratory Elem. School.
Other baguio schools vying for the top post in the elementary division are Elpidio Quirino Elementary, Bonifacio Elementary School and Berkeley School.
Since 1988, the Milo Little Olympics sought to promote the youth's physical and mental well-being as well as develop children with values of discipline, teamwork, self-confidence, leadership, resilience and fair play.
The Milo Little Olympics is conducted annually in Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the National Capital Region.
Meanwhile, Baguio City Police Office city director Ramil Saculles assured all participants of their safety in the city as all security measures are already in place following the augmentation of the local police force from the regional police office. Roderick Osis
