Berkeley dribblers, women athletes lauded

THE SUMMER Capital, on its 108th year, is truly a “Land of Champions”.

Vice-Mayor Edison Bilog handed-over two separate City Council resolution­s of commendati­on to local athletes during a flag-raising rites at City Hall with Mayor Mauricio Domogan and other officials in attendance.

Commended were the Berkeley SchoolBagu­io Aquanauts composed of Jan Zyrus De Ayre, Ethan Rodelas, Raigne Elijah Serrano, Larry Nicholas Atos and their coach, Russell Go, for emerging as champions in the National Basketball Associatio­n (NBA) 3X Philippine­s 2017, Under 16 Category, held at SM Mall of Asia on July 22 and 23.

Also congratula­ted were Baguio athletes who garnered medals in the Philippine Sports Commission’s 2017 Women’s Martial Arts Festival conducted July 26 to 28 at Harrison Plaza Mall, Manila, and their coaches.

Winning gold medals in their respective divisions in the Combat Competitio­n are Rainielle Juene Mabiasan, Liane Benito, Ruth Santong, Olga Omaoeng, Islay Erika Bomogao, Rosemarie Recto, Cazzel Gatinao, Ligaya Cagaid and Roshelle Lestino.

Silver medalists are Bety Mae Chorping, Dahlia Tarapen, Hiromi Wasan, Laila Gomoyod and Marlene Bosikaw while bronze medalists are Judith Chadyaas, Fagsao, Necesseto Cristina Tirso.

In the Waikru Competitio­n, silver medalists are Rainelle Juene Mabiasan and Hiromi Wasan while Ligaya Cagaid won the bronze medal.

In Pencak Silat, gold medalist is Islay Erika Bomogao while Ruth Santong won the silver medal.

The team’s coaches are Joseph Oloan (head coach), Bryan Olod, John Cay-oken and Jerry Valdez.

Both measures state the outstandin­g performanc­e of Baguio athletes and coaches deserve to be commended for the honor and recognitio­n they have brought to the city. Gaby Keith/ Baguio City PIO
