Baguio brood hailed as model OFW family
TWO families from Baguio city were hailed as the models for Overseas Filipino Workers [OFW] in the region.
Local OFW’s Roberto Vizcarra and Saturnino Valenciano and their families have been awarded this year’s Model OFW Family Award (MOFYA) besting ten others from the Cordillera.
Valenciano said during awarding ceremonies last week their families keep them strong in spite of extreme challenges as an OFW.
“Alam niyo mga kababayan ang dinadaanan naming mga OFWs is a rocky road. Tiis lang talaga ang kailangan, mahabang pasensya, determined to work hard even if extreme heat under the sun and extreme conditions in cold season,” he said.
Vizcarra worked in Europe, the United States of America and Asia since 2000 and has successfully sent to school two daughters who are now working in the United Kingdom as nurses who graduated from the Saint Louis University as Cum Laude.
Vizcarra won in the land based category and is residing in Guisad barangay while Valenciano won in the sea-based category and is from Pinsao village.
A regional selection and screening committee chose both Vizcarra and Valenciano who championed values and despite of the social cost of migration, maintained wholesomeness in family relationships and displayed solidarity.
The MOFYA is a project of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) who recognizes the contribution of OFW’s in the economic and social development in the Cordillera Administrative Region and serves as an institutional program of the agency.
Certification of Recognition were also awarded to nominees in the region; Wilfredo Bose from Sallapadan, Abra, Emiterio Pinzon and Samson Agraan both from Luna, Apayao, Viola Miguel from Baguio, Remedios Liwanen Benguet, Geronima Dulnuan from Kiangan, Ifugao and Mercy Agnapan from Sagada, Mt. Province with Efren Bunagan from Sallapadan, Abra.
The regional winners were given a plaque of recognition, a cash prize, and will represent the Cordilleras at the national MOFYA search in Manila on November 2017.
