Gabutan eyes revenge in ‘Return Bout’

MORE than a year after they last fought each other, Dayer Gabutan hopes to return the favor when he clashes against Roilo Golez in the main event of Highland Brawl: The Return Bout slated September 23 at the La Trinidad Municipal gym.

Golez scored a knock out in June last year in a non title match in Madaluyong City against Gabutan, but the Besao, Mt. Province native is bent on avenging his loss to the former WBC Asia Minimumwei­ght Champion.

Gabutan, who splits his time between boxing and schooling, remains upbeat of reviving his boxing career who defended the WBO oriental bantamweig­ht title six times.

For more than a month Gabutan started his training camp and has been sparring for four to six rounds twice a week.

Gabutan also said his stamina won’t be a problem who has been in the gym for quite some time despite the long layoff serving as sparring mates for his stable mates at the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad. “I have been in the gym doing some work-outs just to keep my stamina so it won’t be a problem when I fight,” added

Gabutan who is currently a full time student at the Benguet State University taking up Bachelor of Science in Agricultur­e.

Highland Brawl will also feature up and coming boxer KJ Natuplag who is undefeated in four bouts squaring off against Bener Santig, holder of the Philippine­s Luzon Profession­al Boxing Associatio­n (LuzProBA) super bantamweig­ht title in the event hatched by the Highland Boxing and DMAD Boxing Promotions.

Also in the undercard is Brian Lobetania (11-4-3) taking on Danilo Peña in a six rounder featherwei­ght match of the event backed by Benguet Governor Crescencio Pacalso, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, and Mary Jane Gacad.

Jones Montes and James Lingbanan, meanwhile, debuts in a welterweig­ht match together with Freddie Gomera and Marlon Balancado. Six amateur bouts will also see action in the evening with former world champion Rey Bautista serving as guest referee. Eliezer Anneque takes on Chim Apopot (59 kg) while Louie Jorda and Rodin Tindo takes on each other in the 54 kilogram division with JM Upura tangling with Ken Langpa in the 60 kg division. Christophe­r Bay-an, meanwhile, battles Rosendo Autida (51kg) as Yong Tenorio takes on Jonard Idio (49 kg). Roderick Osis
