ASSOCIATION of Barangay Council president Micheal Lawana asks for calm as protests mount

against the proposal for a podium parking structure at Burnham Park.

“There was a public consultation held last month, maganda naman ang mga issues and concerns na pinag - usapan, bale ang gusto ng karamihan na i - develop na additional parking ay ang Ganza parking area, gawing multilevel with a green roof top for viewing. Walang kahoy na mapuputol. Second ang old library na presently ginagawang parking. Walang kahoy din na masisira,” Lawana said.

Lawana, with proponents Councilors Benny Bomogao and Faustino Olowan proposed the construction of a podium car parking at the area of Ganza, in between Orchidarium and the Children’s Park and the whole stretch of the city library.

Lawana also crushed speculations other structures will rise in the proposed plans at the public park saying it will be purely a multilevel parking structure.

The councilo added another consideration and suggestion from the public consultation is the Aguinaldo Park area in Salud Mitra.

Last week, over a hundred walked around Burnham park on in protest of the podium parking in the public space.

The group, the Baguio we want, spearheaded the walk early morning walk through the park to show where the proposed parking structure will stand and emphasize the importance of the park for health, family and recreation. A letter to Mayor Maurico Domogan was sent last month asking him to veto the resolution.

Lawana said none of the protesters were present in the public hearing and said proposals for the Camp Allen area which is also idle which is owned by the city will also be good for multi level parking.

The alderman said everyone should wait for the proposed plans and drawings to be able to see the design and impact.
